BALB fields four teams in the Montana-Alberta American Legion Baseball Conference: the “AA” Billings Royals and Billings Scarlets, and the “A” Billings Blue Jays and Billings Cardinals. The Blue Jays and Cardinals are feeder teams for the Royals and Scarlets, respectively, providing training and experience to build the skills of young players in preparation for “AA” competition.
Generally, the Royals and Blue Jays are known as the “blue side” of the BALB program. The Scarlets and Cardinals are known as the “red side.” Boys ages 13-19 are eligible to try out for one side or the other, depending on the high school they attend or will be attending:
For players who live in areas near Billings but who do not attend one of the above schools, team assignment is based upon the school closest to the player’s residence.
